The spirit of Old Siam is abound on the streets of downtown Bangkok, where the intriguing brand character of 137 Pillars Hotels & Resorts has taken up residence in the shape of 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok.

Sister property to award-winning 137 Pillars House Chiang Mai, it’s on Sukhumvit Soi 39, just a stone’s throw from the upscale and fashionable shopping district of Emquartier/Emporium.

Anyone familiar with the legendary property in Chiang Mail will be well aware of the colonial-era character that’s made it a byword for luxurious Old Siam ambience.

And although this style is obviously difficult to replicate amid the modern cityscape of Bangkok, 137 Pillars Suites & Residences is probably as near as you can get to intimate traditional hospitality in such a metropolitan environment.

For a start, the 34 suites are way above the madding crowds, between the 24th and 32nd floors, with sweeping views of the Bangkok skyline. If you can tear your eyes away from the views and look inside, four suite categories of one and two bedrooms ranging from 70-127 sqm bring its soul to life.

These interiors showcase a warm palette of rich tones, with marble bathrooms, and expansive use of mirrors and glass.

Underneath high ceilings lies a choice array of luxury living features: private butler service, bars with wine cellars, mood lighting, walk-in wardrobes and marble en-suite bathrooms with chic circular baths complete with built-in TVs.

Spacious balconies are ultimate chill zones, some complete with the traditional 137 Pillars House signature rocking chair and an oversized day-bed for two.

Below the Suites’ high floors, from ground level all the way up to the 22nd floor, the classy 137 Pillars Residences are available in spacious, well-designed and elegantly furnished studio, or one- and two-bedroom residences. There are 179 residences in configurations ranging from 40-91 sqm, all with spacious private balconies.

Guest's can enjoy a hearty breakfast in the privacy of their suite, up in the Leonowens Club on the all day diner down on the ground floor at the atmospheric Bangkok Trading Post.

Transported from Chiang Mai property to this big city setting is the Jack Bain’s Bar and Cigar Divan, referencing a historic name from its fascinating colonial-era provenance – joined by a more up-to-date Sky Bar and rooftop infinity edged pool on the 32nd floor, together another pool and specialty restaurant Nimitr on the 27th floor.

And befitting the property’s inherent quirky character is 137 Pillars Suites & Residences’ very own complimentary local transport in the shape of an authentic London cab, affectionately known as Louie.
