There are fascinating tales to be told about every unique piece of handmade silver jewellery or silk item offered by Stories of Silver & Silk; intriguing fables of the hill tribe artisans who fashioned them using their traditional craftsmanship.

The beauty of these handmade items conceals deeper meanings from ancient knowledge, in harmony with local customs. Each design expresses a story of the artisan who created it, a potent connection from the artist to the customer, to keep the craft alive.

Hence the name of this company, formed by Lucija and Titapa with a vision to help preserve the ancestral knowledge of rural Thailand.

There’s more than just a passion for design in this vision; in keeping these crafts alive they are also committed to providing opportunities for local communities and contributing to their welfare by providing sustainable lifestyles that don’t disrupt traditional ways.

Stories of Silver & Silk works exclusively with small hill tribe craftsmen from rural northern areas, exploring the local way of life, environment and the olden crafts of the Thai cultural heritage.

However, in a nod to modernity, many of the products such as the individual pieces of handmade silver jewellery, articulate contemporary reflections of traditional forms.

All these silver products are unique and hand-crafted in 95-98 percent silver by artisans of Thai-Karen hill tribes. The Karen, a group of ethnic peoples residing primarily in southern and south-eastern Myanmar and in north and north-eastern Thailand, can be traced back to the 12th century when they are believed to have originated from Tibet.

Karen silver has a higher silver content than sterling silver and its weight, bright satin colour, and a feel all its own gives this jewellery a rare, individual character.

Just as with the silver jewellery, artisans and materials for silk products are sourced throughout Thailand’s rural areas, where skilled local weavers and seamstresses create Stories of Silver & Silk’s jewellery pouches, bags, scarves and other handmade, limited quantity Thai silk items.

Stories of Silver & Silk products are available on itswebsite and in stores at JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok,Jatujak Market Bangkok, Torboon Chiang Mai, and Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui.
