Tattoo You

The Sak Yant Wai Kru Festival takes place every March – usually on the first weekend of the month - at the Wat Bang Pra temple about one-hour west of Bangkok. Day One is a frenetic Tattoo Festival, with a non-stop marathon of monks creating holy tattoos during the day and throughout the night, on the bodies of hundreds of eager devotees. Some of these Sak Yant tattoo designs date back thousands of years and are believed to accord their owners magical powers of good fortune, charisma and even protection from bullets. After this, there are blessings from the monks and chanting of mantras, in a supercharged religious atmosphere.
